Lovely woodblock print "Ishibe Koji" (Ishibe Koji Street) is by Teruhide Kato. Wonderful composition and stunning contrast. Published by Unsodo.
Teruhide Kato had studied at Kyoto Art College. He was a famous kimono fashion designer. When he was 50 years old, he decided to follow his real passion and became a traditional Kyoto woodblock artist. Success remained with the artist. After a gallery exhibition in New York and a book publication of his works titled "Kyoto Romance", he is as famous as a woodblock artist as he used to be as a kimono designer. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2015.

Wonderful woodblock print 和合曽我誉富士"Wagō soga homare no Fuji" (Harmonious Soga, A Mountain of Honor) is by Yoshitaki Nakai/Utagawa (1841-1899). Yoshitaki was the most prolific designer of woodblock prints in Osaka from the 1860s to the 1880s.
They are three sheets of polyptych (four sheets), Actor 実川八百蔵 "Jitsukawa Yaozo" as 京ノ次郎 "Kyono Jiro", Actor 市川右団次 "Ichikawa Udanji" as 三浦之助 "Miuranosuke", and Actor 中村嘉七 "Nakamura Kashichi" as 根ノ井大弥太 "Nenoi Oyata" in the play "Wagō soga homare no Fuji" from 曽我物語 "Soga monogatari" (Tale of the Soga). The publisher's name is "八百善”(Yaozen), printed in Meiji 8 nen 3 gastu (March in 1875). Each print has the actor's name, publisher's name, and artist's name "Yositaki hitsu".

The wonderful woodblock print "Ame no Omiya" (Night Rain at Omiya) is by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957). First printed in 1930 originally by Kawaguchi & Sakai; this is a later print by Shobisha from original blocks. Shobisha obtained the original blocks in about 1950. Signed Hasui with red artist seal "sui". The bottom margin contains the title "Ame no Omiya" and "Showa 5 nen saku"(printed in 1930) in Japanese. Very wonderful "bokashi" shading through print with finely carved details. A true classic Hasui print of the highest order. Peaceful rainy night image of a rural village. Amazing woodblock print "Ueno Kiyomizudo no Yuki" (Snow at Ueno Kiyomizudo) is by Hasui Kawase (1883-1957). Excellent shading throughout with fine gradation of raised snowflakes and accumulation. First printed in July 1929 originally by Kawaguchi & Sakai (1929-30); this is a later printing by Shobisha from original blocks. Shobisha obtained the original blocks in about 1950. Signed Hasui with red artist seal "sui". The bottom margin contains Title "Ueno Kiyomizudo no Yuki" (Snow at Ueno Kiyomizudo) and the date "Showa 4 nen 7 gatsu saku"(Printed in July 1929) in Japanese. The wonderful woodblock print "Hinata Bokko" (Cat Basking in the Sun) is by Susumu Yamaguchi (1897-1983). Dated "'80" and sheet number 178/200 on the bottom margin in pencil by the artist. The wonderful woodblock print "Ueno Toshogu" (Snow at Ueno Toshogu Shrine) is by Hasui Kawase (1883-1957). Excellent shading throughout, with fine gradation of raised snowflakes. First printed in July 1929 originally by Kawaguchi & Sakai (1929-30); this is a later printing by Shobisha from original blocks. Shobisha obtained the original blocks in about 1950. The extremely rare woodblock print "Neko to Kotori" (The Cat and Birds) is by Tomikichiro Tokuriki (1902-2000). Printed in 1959. Limited edition size of only 50. Extra large size print, actually two large size prints adjoined. Tokuriki mentioned about this print in his book. He used the old technic of the Edo period which was carving and printing each print separately and adjoining later to appreciate. Titled "Neko to Kotori" and dated "1959" in Japanese on the upper right margin. Artist signature "Tomi " in gold on the lower right corner of each print. Artist's red seal "Toku" on the lower right corner of the image of the lower print. Signed "T. Tokuriki" and edition number "48/50" on the lower left corner of the image. Watermarked "Tomi" on the upper right margin corner. Two birds are protecting their bird nest from a curious cat. This handmade woodblock print is very charming.

Wonderful woodblock print Kabuki Actor 中村宗十郎 "Nakamura Sojuro" as 板倉内膳正 "Itakura Naizennosho" is by Yoshitaki Nakai/Utagawa (1841-1899). Yoshitaki was the most prolific designer of woodblock prints in Osaka from the 1860s to the 1880s.
Actor 中村宗十郎"Nakamura Sojuro" as 板倉内膳正 "Itakura Naizennosho" in the Kabuki play "Meiboku Sendaihagi". (*Itakura Naizennosho was a Japanese Daimyo of the early Edo period) The publisher's name is 八百善(Yaozen). The print has the actor's name, publisher's name, and artist's name "Yositaki hitsu".

The beautiful woodblock print "Momenya" is by Katsuyuki Nishijima. "Momenya" is a very famous cotton store (indigo blue cotton) in Ise, Mie Prefecture. The cloth sign says "Matsuzaka Momen" (Matsuzaka Cotton), the wooden sign says "Okage Yokocho" (famous by street). Nice colors and beautiful contrast.

The stunning and rare woodblock print "Kuramae Kokugi-kan" (The Kuramae Sumo Arena) is by Junichiro Sekino. From Oku no hosomichi series. Kuramae Kokugi-kan was built by the Japan Sumo Association in Kuramae, Taito-ku, Tokyo. Even though it is a heavy snowy day, many audiences and sumo wrestlers are around there. This print captured the lively scene in those days very well. Artist's red seal "Seki" on the lower right corner of the image. The beautiful woodblock print, 'Tokaido Hodogaya' (View from Hodogaya on Tokaido Highway), is by Hokusai Katsushika (1760-1849). It is part of the series 'Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji' (Fugaku sanjūrokkei) and is a re-carved edition. This edition was published by Yuyudo in the Showa era (the 1980s) and is smaller in size than the regular Oban size. Hideo Nishiyama (1911 - 1989) was born in Kyoto. He was a well-known (Nihon-ga) Japanese painting artist in Japan. Unsodo published "The Woodblock Prints -National Parks Series" by Hideo Nishiyama and Kaii Higashiyama in 1960.
