- Shu-u Ikka (After a Shower of Rain) -

The remarkable woodblock print Shu-u Ikka (Clearing After a Rain Shower) is by Toraji Ishikawa (1875–1964) and was printed in Shōwa 9 (1934). While Ishikawa is best known for his Ten Female Nudes series, he also produced beautiful landscape prints, including this work. A masterpiece of his, it vividly depicts, with divided colors, a bustling harbor where small sailing ships gather after a sudden rain shower.

The lower left margin is watermarked "Ishikawa Toraji" and bears the carver's name, "Yamagishi Kazue" (1891–1984), and the printer's name, "Urushibara Eijiro" (1882–1943). The artist’s signature, "Ishikawa," along with the red "Tora" seal, appears in the lower right of the image.

Condition: There is age toning, foxing, creases, and staining on the margins, as shown. The image area remains generally good, although there is age toning and a tiny spot on the mountain within the image. There are tape residues/stains along the edge of the verso, which are visible from the front. Due to these condition issues, the price has been reduced. Please refer to the photos. We recommend framing it for your enjoyment.
