- Koto Yukyu, Sabi (Ancient Capital of Eternity) -

The stunning woodblock print "Koto Yukyu, Sabi" (Ancient Capital of Eternity) is by Masao Ido (1945–2016). “Sabi” refers to the quiet beauty that emerges with the passage of time—an atmosphere of tranquility, age, and subtle elegance that is central to the Japanese aesthetic of Wabi-sabi.

This large vertical composition beautifully captures the quiet simplicity of the Zen garden at Ryōan-ji.

Ido’s masterful use of sunlight and shadow brings depth and serenity to the scene. As befits the celebrated Zen gardens of Kyoto, the atmosphere is clean, tranquil, and contemplative—evoking a sense of spiritual calm. The print elegantly expresses the refined aesthetic of Kyoto.

The artist’s graceful white calligraphic signature provides a striking contrast against the darker tones, enhancing the work’s quiet sophistication and timeless elegance.

Condition: Overall in very good condition. There are a couple of pinhead-sized ink spots on the left margin and tiny scuffs from removed ink spots on the lower left and right margins. There are also a couple of faint spots on the verso, one of which is visible from the front on the lower right margin. They will be matted out. Please refer to the photos.
