The wonderful woodblock print "Ueno Toshogu" (Snow at Ueno Toshogu Shrine) is by Hasui Kawase (1883-1957). Excellent shading throughout, with fine gradation of raised snowflakes. First printed in July 1929 originally by Kawaguchi & Sakai (1929-30); this is a later printing by Shobisha from original blocks. Shobisha obtained the original blocks in about 1950. Signed "Hasui" with red artist seal "sui". The bottom margin contains Title "Ueno Toshogu" (Snow at Ueno Toshogu Shrine) and the date "Showa 4 nen 7 gatsu saku"(Printed in July 1929) in Japanese. Finely carved details and excellent colors. Please see the pictures.
