Unique Japanese woodblock print, Sumo wrestler portrait "Chiyonofuji Mitsugu" is by Motoki Matsubayashi (b. 1948). Title "Chiyonofuji Mitsugu" (Sumo Wrestler's name) on the lower right corner of the image. Artist signature "Motoki" on the lower left corner of the image. Limited edition size of 100. Motoki Matsubayashi is well known Modern Sumo artist and illustrator (mostly his subjects are Sumo wrestlers or Rakugo artists).
Chiyonofuji was the 58th Yokozuna (most highest rank). He was one of the greatest yokozuna of recent times. He was particularly remarkable for his longevity in sumo's top rank. Promoted at the age of twenty-six after winning his second championship, his performance improved with age, winning more tournaments in his thirties than any other wrestler and dominating the sport in the second half of the 1980s.
