The stunning large woodblock print "Asian – Pink no Cross to Heart" (Pink Cross and Heart, from the Asian Series) is by Mitsuru Hiraki (b. 1958). Printed in 2023, this piece is part of his popular Asian Series. With its truly unique design and striking use of color, the print highlights Hiraki’s vivid and distinctive palette—instantly recognizable and deeply captivating. Mr. Hiraki shared the following about his creative process:

    “The colors in my work are vibrant and shining. The shapes I mainly use are seeds, fruits, flowers, hearts, etc., which have the power to sprout. My recent works are part of the Asian Series and incorporate dyed patterns (batik) from Southeast Asian fabrics as backgrounds. These traditional motifs—based on familiar flowers and butterflies—are full of the vitality of people living in Asia. I use them because I want to incorporate that energy into my work.”

Mitsuru Hiraki was born in Yamaguchi Prefecture in 1958. He received his Master of Fine Arts from Tama Art University in 1983 and has received several awards since then. He has held exhibitions in Japan and internationally. His artworks are rarely seen on the market—they are hidden gems.
