- Kochoran to Haniwa (Earthanware Doll and White Moth Orchid) -

Toru Mabuchi

5563

The exquisite woodblock print 'Kochoran to Haniwa' (Earthware Doll and White Moth Orchid) is by Toru Mabuchi. It's a very large-sized print, dated '1980', marked with the Japanese term 'Kazou', which signifies a personal archive, similar to an artist's proof, and titled in Japanese in pencil by the artist on the bottom margin. It's hand-signed 'Toru Mabuchi' in pencil in the upper right corner of the image. The combination of the white orchid and the traditional Japanese haniwa doll creates a beautiful contrast. The image itself is a breathtaking display of mosaic pattern art, created using Mabuchi's unique 'Mosaic pattern' technique. This involves intricately placing and pasting tiny, thin wood pieces on the key block, resulting in a mesmerizing and beautiful pattern. His beautiful mosaic pattern is so fascinating.
