Kusudama (Flower ball decoration)
The print was produced as a kuchie frontispiece for a novel 薬玉 "Kusudama" (Flower ball decoration) in a literary magazine titled Bungei Kurabu magazine, Vol 8, No.7 in 1902. Artist name"Toshikata" with red seal "Toshikata" on the lower right corner.
About Kusudama
Kusudama originates from ancient Japanese culture, where they were used for incense and potpourri; possibly originally being actual bunches of flowers or herbs. The word itself is a combination of two Japanese words kusuri, Medicine, and tama, Ball. They are now typically used as decorations, or as gifts.

Paper size: 12 and 1/4 x 8 and 7/8 inches (31x 22.5 cm)
Condition: Good overall. Original Kuchi-e fold lines. Excellent colors and details. Minor toning, soils, and crease as shown. A pinhead-size hole at the lower left edge which is hardly noticeable. Please see photos for details.
