Beautiful woodblock print "Baiju Sinkei no zu" (Roosters and Plum Tree) is by Jakuchu Ito (1716-1800). Published by Unsodo. Japanese title, Artist name, Printer name "Horii", and Unsodo seal on the left margin. This later impression from original blocks (Meiji era). Very lovely birds and flowers print with wonderful colors.
Jakuchu Ito (1716-1800) was a well-known Japanese painter of the mid-Edo period. He studied Kano painting in Kyoto where he was born as the son of a rich merchant. He became a famous artist as a painter and printmaker of exotic birds, flowers, and Buddhist subjects. The artists' realistic painting style became a source of inspiration for late 19th and early 20th-century kacho-e (flowers and birds) prints and paintings.
