Very fine woodblock print "Kitano Jinja"(Kitano Shrine) is by Takeji Asano. This is one of "Kyoraku Meisho" (Famous Places of Kyoto) series. Titled "Kitano Jinja" (Kitano Shrine), Dated "Showa 31nen" (1956) and "Takeji ga, koku" (Drawn and carved by Takeji) on the lower right of image with red seal.
Dated "Showa 39 nen" (1964), Takeji suri (printed by Takeji) on the lower left margin. There are two dates on this print. (drawn and carved in 1956, Printed in 1964)
Takeji started to work for this "Kyoraku Meisho series" (12 designs) in 1955.
Very neat early spring scene.

Kitano Shrine is one of the most important of several hundred shrines across Japan that are dedicated to Sugawara Michizane, a scholar and politician who was unfairly exiled by his political rivals. A number of disasters were attributed to Michizane's vengeful spirit after his death in exile, and these shrines were built to appease him.
