This striking woodblock print " Shimotsuke Kurokamiyama Kirifuri no taki" (Kirifuri Waterfall at Mt, Kurokami in Shimotsuke) is by Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849). This is most popular print of Hokusai's waterfall series. Katsushika Hokusai was a Japanese artist, Ukiyo-e painter and printmaker of the Edo period. Paper size is 11 and 1/4 inches by 16 and 5/8 inches. Originally in Edo period, this re-covered edition, probably mid Showa era. Genuine Japanese handmade woodblock print.  Still tipped on original presentation folder. Title on the upper right of image. Signature and red seals. (publisher seal and Kiwame seal) on the lower right of image. Very nice embossing and strong colors. Absolutely striking image. This is one of Hokusai's master pieces. It comes with original presentation cover with note. This fantastic print was published by Kaiseisha / Ooedo mokuhansha. Carver is Torazo Matsuda, Printer is Isamu Nakai who are belong to "List of Important Intangible Folk Cultural Properties" in Japan. Approved by Keizaburo Yamaguchi, Recommended by Seiichiro Takahashi they are both very important in Ukiyo-e society. This is really high quality and best re-print of many re-prints by several publishers which I have ever seen.

Kirifuri Waterfall

Kegon fall, Urami fall and the Kirifuri fall are recognized as the finest three waterfalls of Nikko since early times. The fall is divided into two steps of upper and lower side. The upper side is 25 meters high, and lower side is 26 meters high. The total height is 75 meters. The water of the lower side of the fall hit the rocks as if fog comes down. By the way, Kirifuri literally means coming down of fog. It became the name of this waterfall.
