The breathtaking woodblock print "Fuji Jū-Nikei no uchi, Koganei-zutsumi" (The Embankment at Koganei in Musashi Province, from Twelve Views of Mt. Fuji) is by Hiroshige Ando (1797–1858). Koganei was a popular cherry blossom viewing spot in Edo. The print captures a wonderful spring scenery. There are rows of cherry blossom trees in full bloom on both banks of the Tamagawa Josui, and you can see Mt. Fuji in the distance. The title "Koganei-zutsumi", "Hiroshige" red seal, and embossed seal are in the lower right of the image. When Hiroshige was in his late 50s, he drew this series (Twelve Views of Mt. Fuji). They were originally sketchbooks/picture albums of hand-painting. They are very delicate, and the subtle colors are beautiful. This woodblock print is a high-quality Fukkoku Mokuhan (reproduction woodblock print) by Yoshio Kawazura (1880–1963). Printed in Taisho 14 (1925). This is rarely on the market. It is still tipped on the original folder.

The phenomenal woodblock print 'Aka Fuji' (Red Mt. Fuji) is by Tomikichiro Tokuriki. It is an exceptionally large piece, measuring 24 and 7/8 x 19 and 1/4 inches. (63 x 49 cm) The Japanese title' Aka Fuji', 'Shohan Ni-hyaku no uchi' (First edition, ed. 200), and the publisher's name 'Matsukyu' are on the right margin. The artist's signature, 'Tomi,' and the red seal are located in the lower-left corner of the image. Additionally, it is hand-signed 'T. Tokuriki' with the edition number '177/200' in pencil in the lower-right corner of the image. Red Mt. Fuji is considered an auspicious motif. This joyful print is a perfect artwork for the New Year!
According to comments on this work by Tokuriki, he immediately associates "Red Mt. Fuji" with Hokusai, and while it is daunting to compete with that, he wanted to challenge Red Mt. Fuji in contemporary printmaking. So, he looked around many spots at the red-tinged Mt. Fuji and liked the one from Mihonoseki's pine grove the best. Therefore, this image depicts Mt. Fuji from there. It's a large piece, and technically, the printing was quite challenging for him, especially dealing with gradations. The audience will determine whether his modern Red Mt. Fuji has been executed well. Even if criticism arises, he has mentioned that he won't give up on this subject and will persist in trying again and again.
Technique: Woodblock
Paper size: 24 and 7/8 x 19 and 1/4 inches (63 x 49 cm)

Condition: The overall condition is good, with minor toning. There is a mat line and a couple of faint spots in the image (upper left) and on the margin. I have reduced the price due to these issues.
