This lovely little Mezzotint etching "Katakuri" (Dogtooth Violet) is by Mioko Sawada (b.1953). This is a pencil signed, dated, titled in Japanese, and signed by the artist. Pristine condition. Very small limited edition size of only 50 sheets. This is sheet 22 of 50. This small pretty flower is my favorite flower. It takes seven-eight years till a flower blooms. Breathtaking woodblock print "Yosame, Shinobazuno ike" (Night Rain at the Shinobazu Pond) is by Shiro Kasamtsu (1898 - 1992). Amazing color, beautiful gradation, and superbly elegant composition. This is one of Kasamatsu's popular prints. The publisher is Watanabe. There is no "Watanabe" seal. The extremely rare print "Neko no boshi (Mother cat and her kitten) is by Tomoo Inagaki (1902-1980). Adorable cat print. Lovely modern composition and absolutely authentic mid-century artwork. The title "Neko no boshi" in Japanese and hand-signed "T. Inagaki" in pencil by artist on the bottom margin. This print was limited edition 50, however, there is no edition number. We assume this print may be "AP" (artist proof) or a private gift for someone from the artist. Genuine handmade Japanese woodblock print. Inagaki Tomoo was born in Tokyo. Inagaki is best known for his images of cats in modern style. Especially his cat print is very hard to find.

This charming Bijin-ga woodblock print is by Hiroshige Ando. Wonderful details and beautifully embossed. The Japanese title is "Edo Murasaki Meisho Genji, Mitate Ukifune, Sumidagawa no Watashi" English translation is "Parody of the 'Ukifune"(Floating boat) chapter: Ferry on the Sumida River - From the series "Famous Places in Edo and Murasaki (Tale of Genji)". This print is a later printing in the Taisho era. The publisher is Koazuma Nishikie Hozonkai. Hiroshige Ando (1797 - 1858) was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, considered the last great master of that tradition. Hiroshige is best known for his landscapes, such as the series "The Fifty-three Stations of the Tokaido", "The Sixty-nine Stations of the Kiso Kaido" and "One Hundred Famous View of Edo".

Jakuchu Ito (1716-1800) was a well-known Japanese painter of the mid-Edo period. He studied Kano painting in Kyoto where he was born as the son of a rich merchant. He became a famous artist as a painter and printmaker of exotic birds, flowers, and Buddhist subjects. The artists' realistic painting style became a source of inspiration for late 19th and early 20th-century kacho-e (flowers and birds) prints and paintings.
