Ukimido (Rain at Ukimido)

Katsuyuki Nishijima

Fine black and white woodblock print "Ukimido" (Rain at Ukimido) is by Katsuyuki Nishijima. This scene is a street near the Ukimido in Ohtsu, Shiga prefecture. Ukimido (floating temple hall at Mangetsuji Temple) is famous for being featured in one of the "Best Eight Views of Ohmi". His masterful woodblock printing skills reflect a nostalgic view of Japan. This black and white print has a very different impression from other his colorful umbrella prints. Please notice tiny cat face into the image. Please see the last picture. Sometimes he hides these little treats for us to find.
