Saiji (Festival)

Katsuyuki Nishijima

1687

Absolutely stunning woodblock print,  "Saiji" (Festival) is by Katsuyuki Nishijima.  Extremely large size print. This print shows a traditional Japanese house with red lantern and umbrella in Muromachi, Kyoto on the festival day. Outstanding fine details and beautiful lines show characteristic of Nishijima very well. Once Nishijima said to me "When I am carving details of roofs, my mind is very calm"  I see that is why his roof print is so neat and beautiful!
