The beautiful woodblock print "Saba no Michi" (Mackerel Highway in Sunset) is by Katsuyuki Nishijima. Printed in 2000. The Wakasa Highway (called Saba no Michi) was an indispensable road for the people of Kyoto, who do not have a sea, to obtain fresh fish. Among the supplies brought from Wakasa, mackerel is especially famous, and there is another name for Saba no Michi/ Saba Kaido (Mackerel Highway). In those days, this highway was busy and lively. Even though these old days are gone, these old houses remain now in stillness.
