Niwatazumi (Heavy Rainfall)

Katsuyuki Nishijima

Charming woodblock print "Niwatazumi" (Heavy Rainfall) is by Katsuyuki Nishijima. First printed in 1998.  Please note this is small size print paper height is 6 inches and width 8 inches. Wonderful details with strong colors. Excellent shading, bold colors, and strong ink bleed through. Genuine handmade Japanese woodblock print by Japanese artist Katsuyuki Nishijima who was born 1945 in Yamaguchi, Japan. "Niwatazumi" is old Japanese words, it means heavy rainfall. Nishijima uses old words as a title, which people are not used to using in their daily lives recently. Sometimes I ask Nishijima directly. I think he wants to put Japanese spirits or cultures which have been forgotten into his arts. Nishijima's umbrella prints are very attractive and most popular. This little print would be a great gift for Christmas.
