Hamacho gashi (Hamacho River Bank)

Hasui Kawase

"Hamacho gashi" (Hamacho River Bank) is by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957). Excellent shading throughout with light embossing. First printed in 1925, originally by Isetasu (publisher); this is a later printing by Shobisha from original blocks. Shobisha obtained the original blocks in about 1950 from Isetasu. Signed Hasui with red artist seal "sui". Left margin contains title "Hamacho gashi"(Hamacho River Bank) and "Taisho 14 nen"(printed 1925) in Japanese. Very wonderful "bokashi" shading through print with finely carved details. Beautiful sunlight reflection on the water brings nostalgia. Please see the pictures.
