Behind the Shoji

Kunio Kaneko

2765

Very elegant woodblock print "Behind the Shoji" is by Kunio Kaneko. Truly brilliant print. Kanji on the paper lantern says "Teradaya". "Teradaya" is the name of a famous travel inn. This print has a very neat atmosphere. Shoji is a room divider or door consisting of translucent washi paper over a wooden frame. Shoji doors are often designed to slide open, or fold in half, to conserve space that would be required by a swinging door. The Japanese used Shoji screens for many purposes, including tea ceremonies, concerts, dances, Buddhist rites, and outdoor processions. This beautiful print brings tranquility and relaxation into any room.
