This woodblock print was produced as a kuchie frontispiece for a book in Meiji era. The print features a young Samurai writing on paper with a brush, while others are staring at him with a serious look. They are meticulously detailed. There is no artist's signature or seal on this Kuchi-e print.

Wonderful woodblock print "Beauty in the snow" by un unknown artist. From the series "The Nippon Mokuhan Gashu" (Masterpieces of Old Japanese Colour prints). The publisher is Bijutsusha in Tokyo. Printed in 1928. (Showa 3 nen) Truly elegant Bijin print with amazing details. Please see the pictures.
Judging from the composition and vivacious colouring the picture might have been made by Kuniyoshi. The picture is believed, anyhow, by connoisseurs, to have been drawn in the early days of Meiji.
